"[The Heathen's Guide] was an absolute blast... More information and chuckles per page than anything that I'd read previously."

The Georgia Straight, Book Review: The Heathen’s Guide to World Religions

The irreverent William Hopper gives the background for his inquisition of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism: “While doing my Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies, something in my mind went ‘Ping!’…The facts that I was learning seriously undermined the integrity of the orthodox tales.â€

Hopper isn’t the first theologian caught between the ping of the world and the pong of faith–that was Haley Mills in The Trouble With Angels–but instead of getting mad at God, he made it his mission to get even...

Hopper has flair to kingdom come, and the grace to use humour instead of indignation. “The thing is, yoga is not a fitness program. I find it really bizarre that it’s been accepted as such. Sure, you can go on and on about the health benefits of yoga, but there are health benefits to many rituals, like doing the Stations of the Cross, or climbing the steps of a Mayan pyramid to perform a blood sacrifice to Huittzilopochtli.â€

Assuming he survives the letter bombs, the fatwas, and the bus-stop lectures, I can’t wait for the promised sequel.
